Physicians adoption of mobile technology in health will continue to grow, according to a survey from Quantia Communications Inc. published in June 2011.
More than 80% of Physicians responding to the survey own a mobile device.
This adoption rate for smarthphones and tablets is significantly higher than the average of generic Us population which is estimated about 50% for smarthphone and 5% for tablet devices Apple platform dominate the scenario.
The top used mobile devices among doctors are iPhones, used by 59%; iPads, used by 29%; and, Android smartphones, used by 20% of the physicians surveyed. Blackberry devices are used by 14% of the physicians.
Among all physicians, 19% already use a tablet device in practice, and 35% say they’re "extremely likely" to do so.
For 69% of interviewed physicians, look up drug and treatment reference materials is the first professional reason to use their own mobile phone, followed by learning about new treatments & clinical research (42%) and making decision about patient treatment and diagnosis (40% ).
In relation to the barriers that may impede use of mobile devices, physicians are most concerned about patient privacy and liability and lack of financial reimbursement for physician time and investment in using this technology.

"Super Mobile" doctors are using mobile platforms in clinical settings to access decision tools
